Football is more than just a sport around here, its a religion. Instead of parting the Red Sea, Andrew Marshall is parting other football players.
Marshall has been West Forsyth’s center since he joined the team last season in his sophomore year and he has become one of their most valued players. He has been recognized at the local, state, and national levels and was named to the all-state honorable mention team, first team All-County, the Region 6-AAAAA second team, and won the offensive lineman most valuable player award for sophomores at the National Underclassmen Combine. While he is working hard on the field to achieve all of these awards, he spends his time off the field keeping up with his high grades, is active in his youth group, and volunteers with the Miracle League – an organized youth baseball league for physically and mentally challenged children.
So when West Forsyth Highschool’s football coaches were asked to nominate one of their players for the Wolverine Leadership Scholarship Award, Andrew Marshall won it, receiving all but 1 of the 1st place votes. The award is sponsored by the Van Baird Agency and is given to a rising senior that exudes top quality leadership, character, and motivational skills. The coaches voted for Marshall with the praises “Andrew is a tremendous football player, but an even better young man! Tremendous leadership as a junior this year, and a work ethic second to none anywhere at any level!”
I have been the Chaplain for the Wolverines for three years and have the honor of conducting the pre-game prayer and devotion and I am on the field with the team for the post game prayers. Throughout these years, it’s been neat to see how they have ministered to me as much as I have to them. I am lucky to have gotten the opportunity to get to know Andrew on a personal level and was thrilled to be able to present him with the check making him the first recipient of the West Forsyth Wolverine Leadership Scholarship Award.
I look forward to getting to know more of the future Wolverines and possible scholarship winners and I know I will be seeing Andrew do great things in the very near future!
